Women’s Committee Goodbye

06/01/08

The Executive Council of Iva’s Woman’s Committee held a farewell evening tea to thank Mary for the sacrifices she made coming to Samoa, the hard work she has done for the women, and especially the relations she built with the village. They also gave her a beautiful carved ava bowl, Tanoa, as a parting gift.

Sometimes one underestimates the impact you have on others, such is the case with Mary. Some wore dresses made on the sewing machines that Mary was able to get for the village. One could see from the tears in their eyes, Mary is going to be missed.

Oh Mary, you are so deserving of all the thanks and recognition the Samoan people are showing you. I can just imagine all the work you've done, even amidst the trials and tribulations of living in a dramatically different culture than you were accustomed to. Not to mention dealing with two very serious illnesses during your time there.

I am certain you will be sorely missed in Iva by all who've come to know you and your generous spirit this past year. Wishing you a safe, uneventful trip back to the U.S. and will look forward to a nice phone chat once you are settled back in Mpls.

Love to you,
Teri
